What is Stilnox? 

Stilnox is a medication commonly prescribed for the short-term treatment of insomnia. Its contents include the active ingredient zolpidem tartrate, which belongs to a class of drugs known as sedative-hypnotics. 

Stilnox works by affecting the neurotransmitter GABA and binding to GABA receptors in the brain, which has a calming effect on the nervous system. The drug is synthesized to create zolpidem tartrate, the active compound.

Usage

What is Stilnox used for? 

Stilnox is used to treat insomnia characterized by difficulties with sleep initiation. It is recommended for short-term use, typically not longer than two to four weeks. 

How do you use Stilnox? 

Availability:

Stilnox is available in tablet form, which should be taken orally.

Dosage information: 

  • Adult dosage: The recommended dose for adults is 10 mg once daily immediately before bedtime. 
  • Elderly dosage: A reduced dose of 5 mg is recommended for elderly patients, to minimize the risk of side effects. 
  • Children: Stilnox is not recommended for use in children. 

Suitability: 

  • Children: Not suitable for children. 
  • Adults: Suitable for adults, with caution regarding dosage and duration of use. 
  • Elderlies: Suitable for elderly patients at a reduced dosage. 
  • Pregnancy: Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary. 
  • Lactation: Not recommended for breastfeeding mothers. 

Allergies:

Those with an allergy to zolpidem or any other ingredients in Stilnox should not take the medication.

Stilnox should be taken immediately before bed and only when able to stay in bed for a full night (7-8 hours) before being active again.

Stilnox can interact with other medications that depress the central nervous system (such as benzodiazepines, opioids, tricyclic antidepressants), alcohol, and other drugs that affect drug metabolism.
