Who Is High-Risk for Gestational Diabetes?

Certain people will have a higher risk for Gestational Diabetes

Factors that increase a woman’s risk for Gestational Diabetes (also known as Gestational diabetes mellitus or GDM) include:

  • Being overweight or obese
  • Medical history of polycystic ovarian syndrome and chronic hypertension
  • Maternal age ≥ 35
  • Previous history of GDM or prediabetes
  • Previous birth with a baby weighing more than 4kg
  • Previous history of premature birth/stillbirth
  • Family history of diabetes
