How to Prevent Typhoid Fever?

You can prevent typhoid fever by receiving a vaccine and taking preventive measures to avoid transmission.

There are two significant ways to prevent individuals from getting infected with typhoid fever.

Typhoid Fever Vaccination

  • The oral vaccine can be given from 6 years old. This vaccine requires four pills to be taken every other day and should be finished at least one week before travelling to areas at risk.
  • The injectable vaccine can be given from 2 years old and at least 14 days before travelling to at-risk areas.

Avoid Typhoid Fever Transmission

When travelling to areas at risk, you should take extra precautions before having any food or drinks to ensure you don’t consume contaminated contents.

Other preventive measures:

  • Drink boiled water.
  • Eat hot food that has been cooked with heat.
  • Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water, and disinfect hands before eating.
