Healthspan and Longevity: Wearables and AI

Have you got an Apple Watch, Oura Ring or Garmin? Wearable health tech?

We now have access to a range of wearable medical devices to help collect health data. Already we can collect data on pulse, heart rhythm, oxygen levels, sleep, exercise HRV (stress), blood pressure, VO2 max (calculated) and blood sugar, all with graphical representation on our phone. The data available and quality of analysis will continue to grow. These data, particularly the trend over time, are invaluable for monitoring health, much more valuable than a snapshot in the Doctor’s office when you may be under stress. The key is to process and synthesize the data into your program

I have many patients who are not diabetic and choose to use a Continuous Glucose Monitor to help them with their Longevity program. The monitor that we use goes on the back of your upper arm and delivers the data on blood glucose to your phone, one device lasts for 2 weeks. This can show which foods and drink spike blood glucose and may be leading to insulin resistance Diabetes in the future

Importantly tech companies are increasingly providing services to store in one place and use AI to analyse all your health data, at OT&P we keep all data in electronic format and are actively conducting R&D. in this area. These tools will be empowering for individuals and allow them to take control of their health and medical journey. It is likely that the relationships in healthcare will change, the individual will be at the centre with a primary healthcare provider giving guidance and specialist services accessed on an as-needs be basis.
