What Is the Use of MRI in Breast Cancer Prevention?

MRI can form pictures of tumours in the breast.

MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) is a radiological body scan that allows forming pictures of a body’s anatomy and physiological processes. A breast MRI is used to detect breast cancer, determine the size of cancer, and look for other tumours in the breast.

Not every woman who has been diagnosed with breast cancer will need an MRI. Women with an average risk of breast cancer are recommended a mammogram only.
