X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation used to generate images of tissues and structures inside the body. Different parts of the body absorb energy at different rates. The x-ray detector produces an image that shows the different levels of tissue density. The denser the tissue, the more x-ray it blocks and the whiter the image.
