The Difference Between a CT Scan and an X-ray

CT Scans produce a more detailed image than an x-ray.

CT scans produce detailed images of many structures inside the body, including the internal organs, blood vessels and bones. A CT scan is useful when imaging complex bone fractures, severely eroded joints or bone tumours as it produces a more detailed image than a conventional x-ray.

Other benefits of a CT scan:

  • It can image bone, soft tissue, and blood vessels all at the same time.
  • In emergency cases, it can reveal internal injuries and bleeding quickly.
