How Much Sleep Should I Get?

Between seven and nine hours of sleep for adults daily is recommended.

The National Sleep Foundation recommends between seven and nine hours of sleep for adults. However, the actual sleep duration that individuals require for optimal performance varies widely, with some reporting as little as five hours. The best way to determine how much sleep an individual needs is by gauging how one feels the next day and how well one can function and perform.

Individuals with insomnia experience problems in the quantity of sleep. They face difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up earlier than desired. They might also have trouble with the quality of sleep, not feeling refreshed after waking up from a night’s sleep. The quality of sleep is therefore as important as the duration of sleep.
