What is Celebrex? 

Celebrex, known generically as celecoxib, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that selectively inhibits the COX-2 enzyme, reducing inflammation and pain. 

Celecoxib is a sulfonamide-containing anti-inflammatory drug and is chemically synthesized. Its selective action targets cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, reducing the risk of gastrointestinal irritation compared to non-selective NSAIDs.

Usage

What is Celebrex used for?

Celebrex is used to treat pain and inflammation associated with various conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and short-term pain relief of headaches and muscle pains. 


How do you use Celebrex?

Availability: 

Celebrex is available in capsule form. 

Dosage Information 

  • Osteoarthritis: 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily. 
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis: 100-200 mg twice daily. 
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis: 200 mg once daily, up to 400 mg if needed. 
  • Acute Pain: 400 mg initially, followed by 200 mg if needed on the first day.

Who Can't Take Celebrex

  • Children: Not recommended for children under 2 years or below 10 kg. 
  • Adults: Suitable with proper dosage adjustments. 
  • Elderlies: May require dosage adjustments due to kidney function. 

Is there anyone who can’t take Celebrex? 

  • Children: Not below 2 years or under 10 kg. 
  • Adults: Those with severe heart or liver issues should avoid it. 
  • Elderlies: Use with caution, monitoring kidney function. 
  • Pregnancy and Lactation: Not recommended, especially in the third trimester.

Those with allergies to sulfa drugs, aspirin, or other NSAIDs should not take Celebrex.
