Iron can help prevent anaemia in women who naturally have lower iron. During pregnancy, iron levels should be checked through a blood test.

If blood’s iron levels are low, an iron supplement may be beneficial for the pregnant mother. The dosage varies from patient-to-patient, but usually, a pregnant woman should ingest 27 milligrams of iron per day, while a lactating woman should get 9 milligrams per day. 

Eating peanuts can help replenish iron, as long as the patient is not allergic to peanuts. Some breakfast cereals also have iron added to them.
