Summer in Hong Kong often means a whirlwind of activities, from swim classes to language intensives. But for many children, the break from school is also a window of opportunity to build foundational skills that support learning, independence and confidence, all in a setting that feels nothing like a classroom.
That's the idea behind our 2026 MindWorX Summer Camps. As an occupational therapist and a speech-language therapist working together at OT&P MindWorX, we've designed five distinct programmes for children aged 3 to 10. Each one targets a different stage of development, and each one is built around one guiding principle: children learn best when they're having fun.
Why a therapy-led camp?
Most parents are familiar with developmental milestones in the early years. Between the ages of 3 and 6, children progress from drawing circles and using scissors to managing a knife and drawing triangles, while their communication evolves from simple sentences to storytelling, explaining ideas, and navigating social conversations. These skills don't appear in isolation. Fine motor abilities are connected to visual-perceptual and gross motor skills, such as postural control, which allows a child to sit comfortably through a school day. Language and communication, meanwhile, are tied to social confidence, emotional regulation, and the ability to follow instructions and participate in group learning.
What a therapy-led camp offers is the ability to spot where a child might be finding something tricky and to adapt activities in the moment. In small groups with a high staff-to-camper ratio, our occupational therapists and speech therapists can observe how each child holds a pencil, how they coordinate hand and eye movements, how they express themselves and understand others, and how they manage tasks that require planning, sequencing, and communication. That's something a larger holiday programme simply can't replicate.
Designing around developmental stages
We've structured our five camps around what children at each age are typically working on.

For the youngest group (ages 3 to 5), Ready, Set, School! focuses on school readiness, supporting confident learners as they prepare for the classroom. Activities build early independence, social turn-taking and the foundational motor patterns that underpin writing. There's a second Ready, Set, School! for ages 5 to 7, where the emphasis shifts to helping children who are already in school feel more settled and capable in their daily routines.
Our Jungle Safari Adventure camps use a jungle theme to make skill-building feel like play. The 4 to 6 age group works on pre-writing foundations, while the 7 to 10 age group strengthens handwriting, written expression and executive functioning, the ability to plan, organise and stay focused. Children at this age typically have smooth and strong motor skills (MedlinePlus, 2024), so the camp builds on those foundations rather than introducing them from scratch.
Finally, Social Superstar (ages 7 to 10) addresses something many parents ask us about: how to support their child's social confidence. Through structured group activities, children practise respectful communication, collaboration and self-awareness in a safe, supportive setting. Research notes that preschoolers and early school-age children "learn the social skills needed to play and work with other children" through peer interaction, and our camp creates the conditions for that to happen naturally.
What makes the small-group setting matter
Every camp runs with just three to four children per session. That ratio isn't accidental. It means we can observe each child closely, adapt an activity when someone needs more or less challenge, and give individual feedback without pulling a child aside. It also means children form genuine connections with their peers over the week, rather than getting lost in a crowd.
For parents who have noticed their child finding certain tasks harder than their peers, perhaps forming letters, tying shoelaces, or joining group play, a small-group setting provides a supportive space to practise. As developmental guidelines note, "there can be big differences among children ages 5 to 6 in terms of attention span, reading readiness, and fine motor skills". A structured environment where children can explore and face new challenges at their own pace makes a real difference.
What your child takes home
Our camps run from 20 to 31 July 2026 at the OT&P MindWorX Mental Health Clinic in Central. Each programme runs over five daily sessions, with morning sessions for the younger groups and afternoon sessions for the older groups.
Beyond the immediate skill gains, what we consistently hear from parents is that their child comes away feeling more capable and more willing to try. That confidence carries into the classroom, into friendships and into everyday tasks at home. It's the reason we keep coming back to this format every summer.
If you'd like to learn more about our summer camps or enrol your child, we'd love to hear from you. Send us a WhatsApp message to enquire about availability or book your child's place.
