What Is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?

ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder among children.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder among children. Whilst it is predominantly found amongst children, adults can be diagnosed with ADHD as well. Those with ADHD will typically have difficulty maintaining their attention, concentrating, acting impulsively, or appearing hyperactive. Patients with ADHD may either have predominantly inattentive or hyperactive/impulsive symptoms, or a combination of both. Symptoms usually start before children reach 12 years old and are often most evident when the children begin to attend school at around 5-6 years old. It affects approximately 5-9% of children, and boys tend to be more affected than girls.
