What Can Cause Musculoskeletal Pain?

Lack of movement and overloading joints can contribute to musculoskeletal pain.

Musculoskeletal disorders are becoming more prevalent than ever as people are staying in a static position for an extended period. Not just for adults working from home, but also increasingly with children as online learning becomes a new norm.

Research has also shown that HIIT increases the chances of getting knee, ankle and muscle strains as most amateurs don’t have the flexibility and mobility for these movements. Without access to gyms, most individuals are also unable to develop their joint stability and muscle strength. As a result, muscle fibres do not have memories for all high-velocity movements, bringing muscle strain and overloading onto joints.

Studies have also shown that postural training and raised ergonomics awareness will reduce musculoskeletal disorders. We rely on our muscles to provide joint stability in our bodies. When a healthy routine is replaced by an inactive one, muscles will easily lose their strength and memory. As a result, we are at risk of injury when returning to sports again.

Recovery for musculoskeletal disorders can take 2 weeks to 12 weeks or more, so injury prevention is key from the onset.
