How Much Folic Acid Should I Take During Pregnancy?

The recommended daily intake of folic acid supplements for pregnant women is 400 micrograms per day.

Folic acid can help prevent neural tube defects, such as spina bifida.

A natural form of folic acid, called folate, is present in leafy greens, as well as certain types of cereal and margarine.

It is difficult to reach an ideal folic acid intake from foods, which is why the recommended daily intake of folic acid supplements is 400 micrograms per day during a normal pregnancy.

If you plan to take your folic acid in the form of a combined supplement, make sure the tablet does not contain vitamin A or retinol.
