How Common Is Depression?

Nearly 1 in 10 people in Hong Kong experience mixed anxiety depressive disorder.

According to the Hong Kong Mental Morbidity Survey, published in 2015, approximately 3% of the population suffer from a depressive episode. When grouped with anxiety, which often comes together with depression (leading to a diagnosis of mixed anxiety and depressive disorder), the prevalence increases to nearly 1 in 10 of the population. However, most people with these illnesses do not seek any medical treatment, especially amongst men. Depression is an illness that you can treat effectively, and it is advisable to seek treatment earlier before the disease progresses.
