Quality
OT&P are committed to providing a quality and safe service to all our patients.
Australian Council for Healthcare Standards
Following a survey by Australian Council for Healthcare Standards (ACHS) in March 2010 we have been awarded ACHS accreditation. We are the first medical clinic in Hong Kong to gain this international accreditation. ACHS accreditation is endorsed by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), the body that oversees healthcare standards worldwide.
According to ISQua “accreditation is public recognition of achievement by a healthcare organisation, of requirements of national healthcare standards and is awarded based on achievement of quality standards and the independent external survey by peers of an organisation’s level of performance in relation to the standards.”
The ACHS website describes the relevance for patients:
“For consumers, accreditation is basically an issue of trust. People who use health services want to have confidence that those services are safe and will provide consistent high quality care. People understand that there are risks associated with using the health system, but they want those risks minimized”
Quotes from the ACHS survey report include:
“OT&P clearly demonstrated their commitment to ensure the clinics provide patients and consumers with access to professional primary health care services”
“Clinics are well located, designed and equipped to facilitate and deliver high-level clinical care and services”
“OT&P are to be congratulated on their commitment to provide a safe clinical service to their patients and consumers”
“OT&P have employed a full time pharmacist who oversees the management of medications and ensures medications are delivered in a timely, safe and efficient manner according to current ordinances and licensing requirements. Electronic prescribing and labeling systems are used with rigorous double checking controls in place to monitor correct drug dispensing”
“The clinics have placed a high emphasis on patient participation”
“OT&P manage information extremely well. Patients are provided with a wealth of information that clearly explains the services that are provided at each of their clinics. Information technology supports the business requirements and systems are in place to manage electronic data in a safe and secure environment. Information and data are used extensively to identify risks and drive quality improvement. OT&P are to be congratulated on their achievements and encouraged to continue the good work”
“Evaluation of clinical services is comprehensively reported and enables care delivery to be reviewed at many levels. There is evidence that the Senior Management Committee drive this process and are actively engaged in ensuring care is delivered safely and with desired patient outcomes”
International Standards Organisation
ACHS accreditation follows a 7-year program to continually improve standards at OT&P. In 2003 OT&P implemented a quality management system, which was audited by the British Standards Institute in Hong Kong and we were awarded ISO 9001 certification. In 2009 we upgraded to the new ISO 9001:2008 standard.
ISO 9001 standard involves writing procedures that cover all key processes and regular audit of the processes, proper documentation and implementing continual improvement. We run a rigorous complaints procedure and undertake an annual patient survey to ensure patient feedback. We will continue our ISO certification and regular 6 monthly audits by the British Standards along-side the ACHS accreditation.
We are committed to continually improve the quality management system and thus improve services for our patients. Your feedback of services is very important to us, if you would like to comment on our present services or have any suggestions for new services please email us at cs@otandp.com
